Awao Falls, the perfect outdoors shower curtain of waterOctober 18, 2014
My Journey to the perfect outdoors shower “Awao Falls”
“I have heard so much about the hidden treasure in some of my traveler’s friends, that’s why I was up challenged in finding Awao Falls.”
Awao Falls is located in Barangay Awao in the town of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province in the Island Mindanao, Philippines.
Awao was absolutely challenging and meaningful, my journey!
Traveling from City of Tagum Overland Terminal and stop to crossing Barangay Cuevas in Municipality of Trento for almost 3 hours. From there take a single motor going to Barangay Hall of Awao for a 45 minutes. Mr. Moises Bacolod, Barangay Captain of Awao, gave a short briefing about the falls.
Alas, the path from the Barangay Awao departing to the falls area is physically rough and rock-strewn. It was not only plainly difficult but was a test of endurance and strength of mind.
The falls (1,2,3) is approximately an hour away from the Barangay proper, almost 30-kilometers travel and is reachable by “sky lab or habal-habal” (a modified multi-seated public motorcycle). With that 30 kilometers travel had its own many taken aback, have to cross- uncontrolled rivers and creeks by foot, trekking inside the forest up in the mountains.
Finally, reached the Awao Falls…
The moments reached the place; I could not help but get overwhelmed by its grandeur, God nature’s creation. With an estimated height of 120 feet and with a total of more that two hectares.
Awao falls had elegance that I encountered with. It had enough scale for “amazing” “wow” “refreshing” and more remarkably, the water didn’t fall in one single jump down. Ice-cold water that falls into an emerald like river, array the hummock boulders along the way. It slides down gently over a placidly vegetated sloped wall on the face of it forming a beautiful fan-shaped “perfect outdoors shower” curtain of water.
The water was too inviting, relaxing in the midst of serenity, aside from the gentle hush of the cascades. I couldn’t resist taking a long shower. I thought I would just visit this waterfall and take a couple of pictures, maybe even have an emotion of great moment while appreciating the serene view.
Lastly, I was amazed at the full outlook of the Awao Falls, so interesting and alluring!
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO:
Mam Joan Pintal, the Municipal Information Officer of Monkayo for the great accommodation; Mr. Moises Bacolod, the Barangay Captain of Awao for giving his time for the interview, providing us the full information and the tour guide in the name of Ryan Bacolod and to my Badminton buddies Aping Oleo Osigan for inviting me to visits and my companion in the journey to Awao.
